Each week you will be given a list of 20 vocabulary words. You should use the words in your own sentences by Wednesday of that week. You must show me, with context clues, that you understand the meaning of the word within your sentence. On Friday you will take a quiz over the words. Be sure you are understanding the words, not just memorizing them as the quiz will just be sentences where you fill in the correct vocabulary word - it must be used as the correct part of speech as well. Each week you will also have review words from the previous weeks. I highly suggest you use index cards or the Quizlet app on your smartphone to help you review and keep up with the words. Finally, each week the sentences must follow a theme - meaning they should all be related to one particular topic. You can find the list of words below. There is no vocabulary this week!
Week One Week Six Week Eleven
Week Two Week Seven Week Twelve
Week Three Week Eight
Week Four Week Nine
Week Five Week Ten
Graduation Project:
One of the biggest undertakings this semester will be the remainder of the Graduation Project you began during English III. This semester you will take the information from the research you gathered for your paper and create a presentation and product. You will present your projects to the judges on either November 15 or 16. You will get to sign up for the day you prefer closer to the presentation date. If you have specific questions about GP be sure to see the Graduation Project link at the top of this page. You should print the GP timeline from the link above and have it in the front of your binder at all times. All due dates are final and you should be prepared to turn in all work on time. Remember, you may not print in the classroom but the computer lab is open each morning and the Media Center at lunch.
Portfolios were returned and you should have a copy of the final draft of your research paper, rough draft of your research paper, and a research reflection in your folder. If you are missing any of those components you should get the done as soon as possible. You can view the BHS website for specifics on components from English III.
Your first assignment was your product proposal. This is where you will tell me what ideas you are thinking for your actual product. This proposal will be submitted through Canvas and was due by Friday, September 8th. Be sure you followed the directions in Canvas for submitting the assignment.
Your second assignment was the resume. Be sure you are following the directions and formatting for the resume regardless of any other resume you may have. The rough draft of the resume was due by Friday, September 15th. Those were handed back and you should make the necessary changes for your final draft by the time you present in November. Be sure you keep the rough draft with editing marks in your portfolio!
The third assignment was the letter to the Review Board. This is extremely important since it is the first thing the judges will read before you present! Be sure you are thoughtful and concise with your letter. The rough draft was due Tuesday, October 3rd.. When you edit this be sure you print 3 copies of the final draft and sign each!
The fourth assignment was the speech outline - you will need to outline for the judges what you plan on presenting. The worksheet and a sample can be helpful so be sure you are following the correct format. Rough drafts of the outline were due on Tuesday, October 17 - this must be printed out and turned in that day. They were returned to you on Thursday 10/19 which should help you finalize your speech.
The in-class presentations began last week, and we finished on Thursday 11/2. Please use the feedback you got from me and your classmates to tweak your speech in preparation for the real thing in a couple weeks. You may present one more time if you want, but the product must be completed and shown in order to do so.
The final part of the portfolio will be the senior reflection. Like the one done in your junior year, this will not require a rough draft. I will only check to be sure you have completed it by November 7th.
Well, you do it! It is all over! You should be very proud! The grades/rubrics were handed back on Friday 11/17 and the grades have been entered into PowerSchool. Remember, it is 20% of your 2nd quarter grade, but it may not calculate correctly until the end of the quarter.
